Race Details
Brooksie's Bash is a trail race covering 10 country miles in a beautiful part of South Derbyshire, starting and finishing in the grounds of the spectacular Foremarke Hall.

As well as the main 10-mile race, there is also a 5k race, and family friendly walk held in conjunction with the Derbyshire Mind 'Enjoying Derbyshire' project. In addition, following their success in previous years, there will be some fun activities for all the family alongside the races.

Our mission is to provide a good value event which is challenging but suitable for all abilities from the recreational runner looking for their next challenge to experienced racers. The event is a fundraiser for local charity, Derbyshire Mind, so you will also be contributing to a great cause.

If you haven't taken part in an off-road event before it is a great opportunity to come and have a go in a friendly and supportive environment...

You can start and finish at any point on the route and go either way around.

The vast majority of the route is on unsurfaced footpaths and bridleways. However, there are some short sections of road (about half a mile in total) and a small number of other road crossings.

The advertised distances of 10.2 miles has been measured by GPS enabled watch, so therefore can only be considered approximate. Due to the off-road nature of the route it is not practical to have an officially measured and certified distance.

Derbyshire Mind
Once again the event will raise funds for local charity Derbyshire Mind, to help them support people affected by mental health issues.
Their team will be on-site throughout the day to support the event and pass on their appreciation for your efforts in raising funds by participating.
Running and Mental Health
One of the reasons for supporting Derbyshire Mind is that we're passionate about the benefits exercise can contribute to a person's mental health.

Research has shown that running, and other kinds of physical exercise, have a positive impact on mental health. This is leading to more and more health professionals prescribing exercise to people experiencing mental health problems, instead of or alongside medication or talking treatments.
As well as releasing natural endorphins that make us feel good, using running to get fit and achieve personal goals, is a great way to improve confidence and self-esteem. Doing it as part of a club or group gets people out in the fresh air, which also has a positive impact on mood, and helps to make new friends in a supportive atmosphere.

Funds raised by the race go directly to the 'Enjoying Derbyshire' project, which gets people out and about gaining from these benefits in various parts of Derbyshire
Meet Alice, Our Race Ambassador
Alice enjoyed the first edition of the race in 2016 so much, last year she stayed up late to make sure she got entry number 1.

Discovering running a few years ago has played a massive part in helping her manage her own mental health, and we hope that her story will inspire others to do the same. Click on the links below to read her blog.

Sponsors and Supporters
The Derby Runner is a specialist running store, catering for all levels of running, ranging from jogging for fitness to serious marathon running, and from track and field athletics to fell running.

Rob Jefferies and his team at the shop, are a key part of the local running community, and provide a great deal of help and support which is vital to the success of Brooksie's Bash, and our ability to maximise the funds we raise for Derbyshire Mind. As well as visible things like the use of the start/finish arch and other equipment, they provide a lot of other support and advice behind the scenes.
